Kevin Brian Kearney

ABOUT

Kevin Brian Kearney is a Liverpool-born writer who grew up working-class in Stevenage. His first book, Stealing Chocolate from the Gods, draws on a life spent moving — not travelling so much as starting over. He has lived and worked across Europe, India, Mexico, the Americas, and the Caribbean, often on the margins, teaching, making music, and improvising a way through.

His writing is shaped by lived experience rather than theory: addiction, long-term recovery, illness, and the slow reckoning that comes when movement stops being an option. Though unpublished, he has written essays and music for decades, circling the same questions of class, identity, and survival.

Two extracts from Stealing Chocolate from the Gods were shortlisted for The Letter Review Prize 2025, and “The Bypass and the Boy” was longlisted for the Fish Short Memoir Prize 2026.

He now lives in Hertfordshire, England. His work aims to tell difficult truths plainly, without uplift or apology, from a working-class British perspective.
